Short reads: The check in

Hi there. If you are reading this, I hope you and yours are well.

I just wanted to use this space to ‘check in’. I’m sure you hear this term often but do you actually ‘Check in’?

Whether you check in with yourself or others, ‘checking in’ can be meaningful.

I have experienced that checking in on someone can be powerful. It can change the dynamics of their day. Make someone feel seen or even boost endorphins. For me, it lets me know I am being thought of and cared about. It can make me feel loved. It can lift a mood.

Admittedly, I could always improve on my own checking in routines. The challenges of life often gets in the way when we allow it. From time to time I try to pause and steady my thoughts and feelings. I try to make the time to check in on someone whether it’s a call, message, visit or posted gesture.

At home it is equally important to check in with those you live with. Asking those you live with about their day can mean so much. I do this with my children and husband. It’s a practice we’ve all become quite good at. I love when my children, especially, ask about my day. They are so young but so insightful and thoughtful already. They are true gems!

I believe that ‘connection’ is one of the most important aspects of life. With this life, I hope it continues to be fulfilled with more meaningful connections. I am truly grateful to those who continue to check in on me and mine. I hope to continue and improve on ‘checking in’ on myself and others.

Don’t underestimate the power of the ‘check in‘.

Love and Light,

  1. When my 4yr old 1st asked me how my day was at work, I was so shocked – she was only 3 at the time.
It wasn’t something I taught her but she did learn it from me always asking her and her sister how their day was and me and my husband having that same dialogue.
I didn’t realise I needed to hear those words until one day my husband didn’t ask me, but my 7yr old did!
Now it is just common practice for us as a family to have that dialogue on a daily basis.
